After the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War on July 27, 1936, Germany provided military assistance to General Franco (Operation Feuerzeauber). In addition, 20 Ju-52s (mostly Lufthansa aircrafts) were provided, which flew more than 800 flights of Spanish national troops, including 14,000 Moroccan foreign legionaries (Fuerzas Regulares Indigenas), and materials from Morocco to Cadiz and Malaga.
