The Karl Liebknecht House, circa 1920s

The Karl Liebknecht House was the headquarters of the Communist Party and the party newspaper "Die Rote Fahne" in Berlin. On the facade of the house is the slogan: "Against the Young plan, mass misery (and Fascism) against the treason of the SPD - fights (with the KPD) for bread and freedom, for Sovj (et Germany) into the KPD".

Wilhelm Pieck as a deputy to the Prussian State Parliament, 1928

The co-founder of the German Communist Party Wilhelm Pieck (1876-1960) after his release in Berlin. Pieck was a deputy to the Prussian State Parliament during 1921-28 and was arrested during the Vienna riots. He was then a deputy to the Reichstag from 1928-33 and went into exile in 1933 (first in Paris and then in the USSR). After the Second World War he was chairman with Otto Grotewahl of the SED (Socialist Unity Party of Germany) during the years 1946 to 1954 and from 1949 to 1960 he was president of the DDR (German Democratic Republic).

In 1932, the Karl Liebknecht House at the Buelowplatz in Berlin, the headquarters of the Communist Party, and the party newspaper "Die Rote Fahne" ("The Red Flag"), was temporarily closed after heavy street battles between policemen and Communist demonstrators. However, the call to vote on the Communist List 3 is still intact on the facade of the house.

In 1933, in the course of the ban on the Communist Party after the Reichstag fire, the SA occupies the headquarters of the party, the Karl Liebknecht House. On the facade of the house there are still slogans: "Forward in the fight against war, Fascism, hunger and cold, for work, bread and freedom" and next to it "Influenced by Leninism, Red workers strengthen the revolutionary trade union opposition". Pictures of Lenin, Karl Liebknecht and Rosa Luxemburg were mounted on the houses.
