Inscription: "For the murdered 4500 Saxons, Verden, 782". The photo was taken on the occasion of the inauguration of the Landtagsplatz by the National Socialists on June 28, 1936. In der frühen Neuzeit von 1532 bis 1652 diente der Platz als Versammlungstsätte des Landtags (Stände) des Fürstentums Lüneburg. Während der NS-Herrschaft wurde der Platz in seiner heutigen Form umgestaltet. Die Nationalsozialisten machten ihn zu einer germanischen Kultstätte. Der Platz sollte als Versammlungsstätte des Bauerntums dienen.
