Wilhelm Voigt as Captain von Koepenick
Wilhelm Voigt (1849-1922), son of a German shoemaker. In 1906 he bought a Prussian officer uniform at a Berlin junk dealer. As a false "Captain" rounded up a number of soldiers under his command, went to Koepenick on 16.10.1906, arrested the mayor and the cash cashiers and let them transported to Neue Wache in Berlin. Then he confiscated 4042.50 Goldmarks from the municipal treasury and disappeared. Voigt was pardoned after two years and became a folk hero.
