For the first time the Knight's Cross was awarded in place of the War Merit Cross. The recipient, a 'master' at the Franz Hahn armaments factory (seen at center dressed in civilian clothes) is presented the award in the courtyard of the Reich Chancellery by Herman Goering in the name of Adolf Hitler, Hahne stands between Goering and armaments minister Albert Speer. At left ist the head of the German Labor Front, Robert Ley. At right stands an honor guard of the Leibstandarte-SS Adolf Hitler, in front of an officer of the achbataillon 'Greater Germany'.
