Between the 10th and the 12th of January 1954 is several avalanche disasters occurred after extreme snowfalls in the Grosses Walsertal, the municipality of Blons was particularly badly affected. The picture shows helicopters, their crews and volunteers on an improvised landing strip. This was the first time when helicopters were used in Europe for rescue operations.
