Between the 10th and 12th January 1954 several avalanche disasters occurred after extreme snowfalls in the Grosses Walsertal. It was immediately set up a large-scale operation of standby gendarmerie, fire departments, relief organizations and volunteers. The picture shows helpers who take a salvaged person to safety on a sled.
