Following extreme snowfalls in the Great Walser Valley there were several avalanches between 10 and 12 January 1954. A large-scale rescue operation started immediately with the involvement of the gendarmerie, fire departments, aid organizations and volunteers. The picture shows a building that was completely destroyed by an avalanche, in the background you can see salvage teams who continue to search for survivors. In front there is a helper with his dog.
