Following extreme snowfalls in the Great Walser Valley there were several avalanches between 10 and 12 January 1954. A large-scale rescue operation started immediately with the involvement of the gendarmerie, fire departments, aid organizations and volunteers. The picture shows helpers who bring a salvaged person in safety on a stretcher.
