The warden and NSV nurse Wanda visits the 68-year-old Berta Muerich, known under her artist name Henriette Donneux, in her room and is looking at photos of her youth. Donneux appeared on stage as a dancer at the age of 14, at the age of 17 in the Wintergarten. Around the turn of the century she used the Niederrad (bycicle) and sang chansons in German, Greek, French, Russian and Italian. After her husband's death (a capellmeister) in 1920, she quit performing.
