Even before the referendum on the annexation of the Saar region to the German Reich, the population of Saarbruecken was buying devotional objects such as swastika flags, signs, jewellery etc. Among the inscriptions: "The Saar is German!", "1935 Back to the Reich", "The German Aar - over the Saar!", "Heil Hitler!"
