The hitherto largely escaped Koenigsberg was massively attacked from the air and hit hard in the fall of 1944, when the Red Army could perform its offensive towards Goldap. The photo, taken at the Steindammer Church shows a view from the cinema "Alhambra" on Kueckens wine bar, right on the edge the "Berliner Hof" destroyed by a direct hit. During the siege of Konigsberg even these remains of the buildings were destroyed.
