Koenigsberg, which was largely spared until autumn 1944 when the Red Army was able to push its offensive to Goldap, was massively attacked form the air and was severely hit. In the photo is a desert of debris and rubble around the Catholic church on the Sackheim, which appears to be a great field of ruins.
