Architect Hans Poelzig was a founding member of the German Werkbund and since 1923 a professor at the Technical University of Berlin. On 1 January 1933 he became director of the United State Schools of Fine and Applied Arts in Berlin. On 10 April 1933 resigned from the Nazi party.
